Bilbo Baggins wanted to reclaim the dwarven kingdom, but the evil Smaug was guarding the gold. So he found the moon gate and went through that until they made Smaug so mad that he flew down to lake town. He wanted revenge but a hero arose called Bard the Bowman. He used the black arrow to take down the evil dragon and retake the gold but they did not like to share. So they started the battle of five armies and it resulted in the deaths of many elves who should have lived a long life in the forest.
