Zitally and her family are undocumented and when her father is picked up for speeding he is deported. Somehow he must find his way back to his family. Later Zitally finds a dog which she names Star because of the star shape by his neck. She begins to believe that Star is her father's "spirit animal" and as long as the dog is safe so is her father.
