On the Come Up is about a sixteen year old rapper, Bri, who is the daughter of the late rapper Lawless. Bri releases her first song and it becomes a hit, but not entirely in the way Bri wants it to. Some people think that the song leads to violence. Bri has to overcome racism and prejudice in order to get her come up with the support of the people she loves.
